Tyson Black Search Update

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and WCSO Search and Rescue teams are continuing to assist in the search for the missing six year old, Tyson Black. Sheriff Pulsipher and county staff have continued to meet with Hildale and Colorado City personnel to plan and coordinate search efforts. Using the expertise and knowledge of the Human Remains Detection (HR) K-9 teams, and experts in the search for missing persons, future searches will be targeted efforts. We will continue to evaluate and identify the highest probability areas and those will be the focus of searches.

HR K-9 handlers and other experts have a great deal of experience with different soil, temperature and debris environments. Using this information search planners will continue to deploy both K-9 teams and Search and Rescue volunteers and try for the best results over this massive search area. Local businesses and residents have continued to provide assistance with heavy equipment operation and other labor as needed to move the massive debris piles.

The massive turn out of volunteers was essential to the finding of the other 12 victims of the September 18 flash flood. At this point, however the search for Tyson may look more like a methodical expedition than a missing person search. Our meticulous search will continuing slowly down the path of flood. As there is a need for more volunteers we will reach out to the local community and surrounding county resources. The outpouring of volunteer help and support has been overwhelming and essential to the progress we have made so far.
