Why do Deputies Look Like Duck Dynasty Stars?

Welcome to what the Sheriff’s Office calls “The ‘Staschtober Beardfest’. Through the month of October you may see Sheriff’s Deputies looking more like ZZ Top band members than the neatly groomed professionals you are used to. The Sheriff’s strict grooming standards have been relaxed for a good cause and a lot of fun: raising money for Shop with a Cop partnered with KONY Coins for Kids.

The mustache and beard growing contest, open to all Sheriff’s Office staff, is the brainchild of our Medical Unit Coordinator, Liz Jimenez. Beginning October 1st , participating clean-shaven staff sign up for the contest and get their picture taken. From there, nature takes it course until October 29th when the results will be judged by KONY Country’s own Carl Lamar. Our employees are encouraged to donate to Shop with a Cop partnering with KONY Coins for Kids. On the 29th, Carl will select the winning mustache, the winning beard and the overall winning beard and mustache combination. All funds collected through October will be donated to Shop with a Cop in the winner’s name.

You don’t have to work for the Sheriff to participate. Anyone who would like to support Shop with a Cop and KONY Coins for Kids can donate at the Sheriff’s Office by contacting Fay Anderson at (435)656-6652 or by contacting KONY Country at (435)628-3643. All proceeds go directly to children in Washington County. We encourage everybody to support your favorite deputy for a great cause and we promise that grooming standards will be back to normal on November 1st.
