Last month, selected inmates at the Purgatory Correctional Facility were allowed to submit artwork for the Washington County Fair. In all, there were 20 inmate entries; sixteen in the Fine Arts Graphics Division and four in the Literary Arts Division. The inmates made an impressive showing with their collective entries, as they received several ribbons and even some cash prizes. One inmate received both the Washington County Fair Sweepstakes Ribbon and the Washington County Arts Council Ribbon for his drawing of the Dali Lama. In fact, the pencil drawing was so impressive that a viewing spectator inquired about purchasing the artwork.
Inmate participation in this event is just one of many rehabilitative opportunities provided to the inmates at the Purgatory Correctional Facility for the purpose of assisting them with their eventual reintegration back into our community.
