Our Mission:

To provide the highest quality law enforcement services to the citizens of Washington County. We respect the diversity of our citizens by serving all people fairly and equally.

 

Our Organization:

The WCSO is organized into the following divisions:

Corrections Division

The Corrections Division is responsible for functions related to the operation of Purgatory Correctional Facility. The Corrections Division includes the Corrections Chief Deputy (a.k.a., Jail Commander), corrections lieutenants, corrections sergeants, corrections deputies, and other correctional staff as determined by the Sheriff.

Emergency Services Division

The Emergency Services Division is responsible for preparing for, monitoring, and responding to natural and man-made disasters and events. The Emergency Services Division includes the Emergency Services Director, Search and Rescue staff, and other staff as determined by the Sheriff.

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is responsible for responding to citizen calls for assistance, patrolling Washington County, investigating traffic accidents, taking initial reports, criminal investigations, court security, and other law enforcement functions. The Patrol Division includes the Patrol Chief Deputy, patrol lieutenants, patrol sergeants, patrol deputies, and other patrol staff as determined by the Sheriff.

 

Our County:

Washington County is about two hours north of Las Vegas on Interstate-15. The county seat is the City of St. George and it sits at an elevation of about 2,500 feet. The county population is over 140,000 and Washington County is one of the nations fastest growing counties.

The region is mostly desert and the climate averages over 300 sunny days a year. Washington County has a large population of retirees and offers more than 11 golf courses with varying degrees of difficulty. Washington County is a mecca for the outdoor enthusiast and offers equestrian activities, rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking, and a world class marathon which is held each year in October.

There are several beautiful lakes where boating, water skiing, jet skiing, and fishing are popular activities. Washington County is the gateway to several of America’s finest national parks including: Zion, Bryce Canyon, and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. In fact, the majority of Zion National Park is located within Washington County. With a relatively low crime rate, Washington County has been recognized as one of Utah’s safest counties to live in.
