Community Fire Planning

communityFireMost of Washington County’s smaller communities live within the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) area. They have been identified as at-risk for wildland fire. These at-risk communities have been encouraged to form homeowner fire councils. Each community has their own Community Fire Plan that was developed by the community in collaboration with local, state and federal fire agencies. These homeowner fire councils work with their local fire departments and the Washington County Emergency Services department to keep the plans updated.

One important factor in the Community Fire Plan is educating the residents in the community about wildfire risks and how they can reduce or mitigate possible hazards around their own homes. Learning about the dangers of wildfire can help save lives and homes.
