Inmate Work Crews in Support of the Santa Clara Flood Relief Effort

Most will remember the damage caused by the Santa Clara flood of September 11th. Additional damage ensued following the failure of the city dike. Many businesses and homes were destroyed as a result of these free flowing waters. Response groups assisted in minimizing the damage, and then again later in the clean-up effort. Purgatory Correctional Facility responded to the incident early on, with inmate work crews and other support equipment. Sheriff Cory Pulsipher himself directed this project. Three crews totaling about eighteen inmates and three crew chiefs worked over the two day assistance period. These crews enthusiastically made, delivered and in some cases placed over 2500 sand bags. Through their involvement, property was undoubtedly saved. As a foot note, the crews later received thanks from some of the citizens for their contribution to the relief effort.
